Celebrity Caricatures

I'm working on a celebrity's caricature for his website. I can't mention any names or show any samples until the work's complete. As is so often the case the drawing starts out as a caricature and migrates to a cartoon version of that person because caricatures are not meant to be complimentary, even mine aren't that complimentary. But that's not the main problem I was having. This celebrity has seen an 'On-the-Spot' caricature that I drew of his friend and liked the style and wanted to do a similar thing for his website. Only of course he doesn't actually want the same thing.

An On-the-Spot caricature, like I did for his friend, would be done and dusted in minutes.In this instance the client wants seven different angles drawn! Getting a likeness with caricaturing is difficult enough when the client is looking straight at you. For this job we started off with a straight on, which I never do, then part profile right, part profile left, part profile right upwards and so on in a clock face manner. By the time I'd finished I'd drawn seven 'different' people, apparently, I had to admit defeat. So I resorted to taking photos to work from back in the studio.

Not only am I having to ensure that each angle looks like the same person but I'm also having to maintain his youthful looks! Hence the moving away from caricature to cartoon.
